Swapping Cards

ok so ive never swapped anything out of my PC except for RAM which is a no brainer. im going from a 4850 to a 460. the only difference between the two that i notice is amount of power required.....i read the 460 requires two six pin (which im sure i have). do the required drivers come on a disk?

im just wondering how much of a pain it is to swap and what kind of trouble i might encounter.

I assume you're referring to the Radeon 4850 and GTX 460? Both video cards should come with an installation disk that holds the required drivers.

Unless I'm mistaken, your operating system alone can provide itself the necessary power to boot up into your desktop regardless of drivers. From there you can go online and download the drivers directly online, no need for a disk.

Installing video cards is not much more difficult than installing RAM from my experience. I used to have a Radeon 4850. I just recently upgraded to a GTX 560.

ok cool. i was going to go for the 560 myself. someone suggested that in another post of mine but my cousin has a 460 and he can max out settings on all the games we play so im going with that for now.

uninstall drivers for the ati card completely, power down, remove the card, install the new one...boot up, install new driver

-go to nvidia's site in advance and grab the up to date driver, i wouldnt bother with the one on the CD.

i was assuming the disk would be out of date anyway and i would need to update, i just wasnt sure if i needed what was on the disk to be able to update driver. thanks.

another question: im thinking of getting a Samsung 32" or 37" for a new monitor.....is there a big difference between a TV and a Monitor? is it recommended to get a monitor over a tv or is there no difference?

price...and dpi....to me as far as i can see...dots per inch will be higher on the monitor than the television...

Windows 7 updated my video card to the latest driver automatically. I never even had to install any drivers for my system when I built it. Should do the same for you. Of course you can always go to the manufacturer's website and do it yourself but it may not be necessary.
