im gonna get a GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R as a christmas present. im just wondering how swapping it with my old one works seeing as i have never done it before. can i just take all the parts like the HD. GPU. and ram and stuff out and then plug them into the new one and eveything should work?

i cant think of what else to ask at the moment. but yeah, please advise me as to what i will need to do.

thanks

you may need to reinstall the os when replacing the mobo

ok... is there anything i should worry about with hardware?

Drivers will have to be updated. It may not want to boot into Windows, unless you use safe mode. If this happens, it will most likely be due to drivers and applications that were designed for the old hardware. Although, if you are just switching motherboards, and both take the same processor/memory/etc, then you shouldn't have much problems, if any.

ok so is it possible that i could boot into safe mode and install the drivers?

Yes it is. But if you were forced to use safemode, it would be because of a driver or application issue. So you would be removing those issues because they are holding you back from booting normally. Once you get rid of those issues, you can boot into XP and install drivers.

lol ok. ill see how a normal boot goes. but ill probably just reformat anyway. by that time my system will be running slowly.
