Switching cases (first thread)

Okay so I am new to computer builds and whatnot, so dont go crazy on me. I have two computers. A desktop that i plan on making a good gaming rig, and a laptop that is for travel and light gaming use. My desktop is a Dell Dimension 2521. What I would like to know is if it is possible to switch several things. One being the case, which I would change to a CoolerMaster Haf 922. And a video card. (MSI R4890 Cyclone OC Radeon HD 4890 1GB). I may also possibly put in more ram and fans, as well as a fan control. But for the most part, the case and video card are what is most important to change. What I would like to know is if it is possible. Thank you.

Dell and HP have a non-standard case size - while most aftermarket cases are standard ATX - or micro-ATX.

You can use a new case - if the board fits - but you might need to modify it ( I think this would be the mounting spacers would need to be relocated in your new Case to fit the Dell board - but I've not tried to move a Dell board into a non-dell case )

Re: Can you add a new video card - yes - as long as you have a pci Express x16 or x8 slot - you can put a new card in it. Might be somewhat limitd by PCIe slot speed - RAM speed - or your CPU depending on what you have

I couldnt' find any specs for your Dimension 2521 model online - so I'm not sure what your cpu or motherboard are. You sure ya got the model right. If you could plug your service tag into Dell's website - and post your motherboard - RAM - CPU - Power Supply rating - etc - you could get some more helpful answers.

If you decide to upgrade, you'll definitely want a new power supply with some more power to feed your GPU.

Thanks for your help! Yeah its the right model. I couldnt find specs on it either. Its kind of odd. Im going to look around for the box. Hopefully I didnt throw it out cause I got this computer several years ago.

CORRECTION! My pc case is a little scratched and it turns out the Dell is an E521 not 2521. Sorry my mistake. Would that help you figure anything out?
