Switching from intel to AMD

Sup guys, I was thinking of getting an Intel Q6600 processor with a mobo with 1 pci express x16 port like the gigabyte or an asus and just get a 4870 GPU.. My plan was to do this because next year sometime in christmas 2009 I was going to switch to the new i7 chips and you need a new motherboard the x58 and all that.. Now I've changed my mind for two reasons #1 i'll be saving money in the long haul and #2 the new denab processors are supported on the am2+ mobos.. So now I want to get a

phenom 9950 BE

AND the best am2+ mobo I could find

Also that mobo has expansion of up to 4 GPU's so i should be set for a while right?

I figure I could get this with the 4870 gpu and it should hold me over for a while then sometime next year or whatever i could always upgrade to the best processor amd has to offer ie denab and at least it will be supported on the am2+ mobo.. I'm trying to future proof my rig really because i'm tired of upgrading every year I would like this to last me at least 3 years before i have to do an entire remodel lol..

Anyway what's your guys opinion think I'm making a good decision?? I'm sure that rig would be able to handle crysis at high settings and if it could handle that game than i should be set with most other games for a while..

Good change, I like it. AMD is cheaper, you did right to save money. HOWEVER if money is not a real objet, intel is FTW

Thanks, yeah money is the real object, it's not even the price of the intel processors but after spending hundreds of dollars on them now I have to buy the processor and the mobo because it's incompatible with my x48 mobo that cost almost 300+ dollars. Which in my opinion makes the x48 outdated in the upcoming months which is ridiculous.. Not only that but now I have to get ddr3 ram which isn't much faster than ddr2 but cost like 100 dollars more and now I have to get 3 sticks because than my system isn't optomized because i'm not using triple channel even though I just spent 800 dollars on the mobo and processor...

Now don't get me wrong i'm not an idiot I know intel is blowing amd out of the water with that i7 chip but the denab chip coming out should be pretty good and at least people wont have to upgrade everything just to upgrade the processor. am2+ mobo is compatible, so is the ram, and the heatsink.. I'm sure AMD won't stop competing with intel and if they do then yeah i'll go back to intel lol. Until then I think i'm going amd route the new amd quads should be pretty good and they're cheaper, also amd mobos are really good and almost hundreds of dollars cheaper. I'm still looking for answers so people please post on this subject cause a lot of you know more about this than me what do you guys think?

I'll say that Intel is considerably better right now. They're currently offering higher quality processors than AMD is. I'd still say you're getting a better deal with Intel in terms of the Price:performance ratio.

i would say the same thing. i don't know of any $120 processors from AMD that can overclock to 4ghz, have 3mb of cache, and are 65W...

The Phenom 20550 Socket AM2+ Quad-Core processor specifications look impressive. 3 gigahertz clock speed, 512 kilobytes level 1 cache, 2 megabytes level 2 cache, and 6 megabytes level 3 cache (125 Watt).

DDR3 speeds aren't much better than DDR2. I say you are intelligent to look at DDR2 memory and motherboards since DDR3 memory and motherboards are overpriced presently.

Just gotta remember that AMD and Intel "rated" speeds are not showing their true colors. Only benchmarks show 'em :)

DDR3 has been overpriced since the end of 07'...

prob true. But what 66 dollar dual-core is 2.7GHz? AMD's Athlon 64 X2 5200+. I am just saying, that if you have not got the money, then AMD has some kick ass overclocking dual cores. I had my dual core stock 2.1GHz running at 2.4X, but the heat was a bit higher, and that's the stock cooler. But I also said, if you can afford it, GET INTEL. When I build my next PC I am gonna try Intel, no doubt about it.

The new Shanghai chips are suppose to compete with the i7's and deneb is suppose to compete with penyrn i'm really eager to see some benchmarks of these new amd cpu's.
