switching from windows xp to 2000?

well i now have a 449mhz comp [a little improvement still saving for the big one] and i got counter strike. the minimum requirements for counter strike are 500mhz [everything i have and then some] Some peeps say ill lag but word is from this guy at radio shack thata if i switch to windows 2000 then id be able to get it running at a better pace. I have windows 2000 install cd but when i try to overwrite xp it wont let me. Anyone got any advice on how to get this on my comp as a new operating system or another one on my system so i can chuck xp later or....something.
 
you're only allowed to upgrade to a higher version of windows if you wanna overwrite
but you can install windows 2000 on another drive
 
well could there possibly be another operating system that would be great for my system that i could still play counter strike on?
 
yeahh, dont know why you would wanna downgrade? just get the faster pc, and play it on there.

anyway, your going 2 have 2 delete the current partition, and make a new 1.
 
cant he just make another partition with windows 2k that way he can boot windows 2k to play cs but still be able to boot winxp other times? Im pretty sure this is what I did when i had a computer as bad as his. I could boot either win2k or win95.
 
yeah you can partition so ones xp and ones 2000 but if you ask me mate i would upgrade your pc dont bother downgrading
 
Well i crashed my own computer creating the partition and so now i am running on windows 98se [everything is running even counter strike no lag] It's ok i guess it basically got me where i wanted to be but some things for windows 98se can be a pain. Thanks for the help guys
