switching hdd

if i switch a different hdd into a differtent computer, will i need some kind of software, or is it simply a plug-and-use kind of thing. i have a feeling its more than just switching it, but im hoping it isnt. because i basically have a slightly better computer, but ive got everything on this hdd, and instead of switching everything to this computer, i was hoping i could just do it with the hdd.

Obviously you have to reload all your software, documents, windows, etc...

Assuming it's your boot drive, you'll really need to reformat and reinstall everything when you move it to a different computer, so you'll loose all your data. If it's not your boot drive, then you can just plug it into the new computer (assuming the jumper settings remain the same).

ok, so basically i cant switch the hdd AND keep everything...it would just be like starting over?
