can anyone help,i am at the end of my tether...bought the machine nov.2004,since then it has been switching itself off....it started only now and then but now it is regular..it only happens when running games...i had the graphics card replaced under warranty thinking it was that...no joy...the cpu and graphics card run nice and cool so i dont think its cooling ...when it switches off all i have to do is flick the switch on the psu a couple of times and then it starts up...the one thing i did notice now and then when i switch it back on the psu temp. gauge goes pink and gives a little beep.so could it be the psu and would overheating cause it to cut off...it normally runs at 43 deg. c but can rise to between 55 c and 60 c when running games..have all the latest drivers, updates and patches so hope someone can offer me a solution

thanks for the tip ..so here goes....

pentium 4 3.6
msi 915p g neo2 motherboard
corsair pc5400 i gb
sapphire ati x850xt pci express
psu thermaltake purepower 480w
xp pro
maxtor 300gb hd sata
cpu temp idle 37/stressed52 c
graphics card 40/60 stressed
no overclocking
have tried all drivers from 5.1 to latest from ati no diference

temps for the cpu look fine, dont know a whole lot about video card temps, but does this problem happen with any game? have you tried doing something else on the computer that uses up alot of system resources like 3DMark or PCMark?

click start > run > dxdiag . if you havent done this before it will come up witha yes and no box, click yes. then click display, let it collect the information. then click on the directdraw, and direct3D tests. if it cuts out during these, post back.
