hi,
i have just purchased a laptop, and wish to instal linux ubuntu on it. i have already recieved the disks to instal the os, but i have a few concerns - could anyone help me?

when i instal it, i gather that it will delete everything off the hardrive... but will my laptop need some of these programmes to run.

I.e Tosiba utilities

will instaling the operating system over windows xp pro remove programmes that the laptop needs to run, and if so, how do i go about installing the os.

please note, i am not the most fantastic computer user, so plain english is essential!

thanks!
cparsons.

No, your laptop doesnt "need" any software thats installed on the computer to run, all the software it needs is on the motherboard, the Toshoba Utilities is probably just some disk management tools, backup, ect, if you bought a copy of Windows XP Pro at a store, installed it, they wouldnt be on it either.
