Switching optical drives

When switching optical drives to another computer, do you need to install any drivers to go along with them or is it just a smooth transition?

I think it installs itself. You will need some software for recording and
playing DVD though. I recommend CD Burner XP and DivX Player.

I just installed one, and there were no drives to update or anything. The computer instantly recognized the drive.

You can sometimes buy the DVD writer with software included. Like mine had a free copy of Nero 7 in it, but like the above poster said, there is plenty of freeware out there on the web.
