Synaptics Driver

Hello! I recently bought a laptop from multicom.no. It was delivered without OS or drivers, so I installed everything myself. Now, everything is working but multi touch features on the touchpad. I know that the touchpad supports it. I have downloaded the newest synaptics driver, but it still only support single touch. When I install the synaptics driver it says "ready to use" but none of the software actually gets installed. I dont get the synaptics gesture suite or anything... However, when I uninstall the driver it stays unfunctional untill I reinstall the driver... Any ideas?

Running Win7

What is the make and model of laptop or did you have them custom build it?

I'm not sure if synaptics supports all the touchpads out there. I know there is Alps and one more but I can't remember the name. Ok, just found out the major manufacturers are.

Alps Electric Corporation
Cirque Corporation
Synaptics
ElanTech

Elantech was the one I was thinking of. You may have to install the Alps or Elantech driver.

I tried to install an Alps driver but it just said it didnt suit the device. So I am pretty sure I have to just get the synaptics driver to work... The manufactor of the laptop told me to do a clean install of windows but I really dont want to do that <.<

Do you have any other ideas?

When you install the synaptics software does it say the install completed? When you reboot is there a synaptics icon down in the systray by the clock?

No thats the weird part. The installation goes way too fast to be real, but when it is finished it says installation complete and ready to use. After the reboot there are no synaptics icon on the system tray by the clock, no synaptics software installed, but the touchpad works with single touch but no multi touch...

I wonder if I could extract the inf file and all dll's and install manually? What is the link to the driver?

Are there maybe a way for me to manually go in and delete every synaptics / touchpad driver/dll and everything remotely connected to the synaptics driver / touchpad and do a completely clean install of the driver?

Go into device manager and look for pointing devices and uninstall. I would do this in safe mode. Be sure you have the driver downloaded to your computer first.

I tried to extract the driver files but there is just a cluster of crap and I can't make heads or tails of it.
