OK i have a ipaq running windows mobile 2003,

I have a desktop at home which is running activesync

i have a work laptop running activesync

Work laptop come with me to various clients, most of which offer me internet access

I need! to be able to sync my ipaq with my home desktop through my work laptop (which has internet connection)

Any thoughts on this?

setting up a VPN may be a good way to do this, there are some configuration issues with that though. Assuming you have DHCP from your ISP, you may need to get a router which natively supports DYDNS, that way you can always connect to it no matter where you are.

However, I do believe that most (if not all) sync applications are designed to have local access to the device it is synchronizing. So even creating that connection may be moot of the application will only sync over usb or blue tooth or what not. Is there a sync over TCP/IP option with any software you run for syncing?

I only ask because I do not use hand held devices really. I just use my laptop.

There are options within the activesync app to allow remote connections and there are options on the hand held relating to syncing remotely. Had a 5 min google hunt but could find decent instructions.....many talking about setting up a RAS (which im pretty sure only relates to dail up conections)

yeah remote access servers serve a bit of purpose but not for what you want it for.

I would see about creating a VPN with your desktop at home and your laptop in the office or where ever you are, and then try using the remote sync option.

You could try like remote desktop, but that just tunnels into a remote machine for control, I do not think there are any file sharing options.

dont think setting up a vpn is necessary, Ive got this thread on a few other sites to see if they come up with anything....if they do ill post it here

well from what I read, the RAS connection is for when your Palm device has a modem and it dials out and connects and syncs to your host computer over the net. I still think VPN would be the best way to do this, but at the same time it would require the most set up and the most infrastructure to be in place so it may not be viable for you.

Hope you figure it out.

here is an old but decent article on the basics

If are syncing to an exchange server, MS makes software that is suppose to support this type of thing.

I can only assume you have a broadband connection at home? So you do already have a network so you could feasibly set up vpn.

Either way, I am curious enough now, so if you figure it out please post
