hey everyone,
i wanted to ask a 3 part question.
first-every time i start my comp the system 32 folder pops up.how do i get rid of that?
second-what is system 32???
third-my computer got a virus and some trogans, and ever since then my wallpaper doesnt appear anymore accept when i shut it off, it comes on right before the screen turns to the "windows is shutting down" screen. and when i go to the control panel's "change backround" it doesnt let me choose any backround.what do i do?

sorry for the essay but i really appreciate the help.

Check the startup folder start->programs->startup for a system32 shortcut. system32 is one of the key system file directories for windows, it holds the windows kernel among other important files.

1) That is quite correct for the "C:\Windows\system32\" folder containing the bulk of system files and drivers there. A trojan may have something hidden there explaining the popup message being seen.

2) Possible substitute name used by trojan to create new startup. Refer to answer #1 for name of system file directory.

3) What told you that there is some type of virus and trojans on your system? What antivirus, antispyware, antiadware programs have you tried so far to see this corrected?

Besides advising the post of a HiJack This log some removers can be advised here to see if the system can see a good cleaning. You can HiJack Thiis free of charge at http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php

Guess what saw an update? AVG 7.5 can be downloaded free at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Ewido is another freeware available at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/ewido-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

AdAware SE Personal is free at http://www.lavasoft.com

One thing to note here is that AdAware and Ewido are far from the best at locating malwares just the usual adbots, occasional browser hijackers, and a few minor annoyances. AVG on the other hand has been great here for pointing out just a good number of viruses and trojans like to hide themselves.
