Hello everyone and thanks for reading!

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I have seen people ask this question many times on many sites but nothing has worked for me.

I have recently purchased a Wincor Nixdorf Beetle Point Of Sale computer. It does not have a CD-ROM drive and nowhere to add one so I am somewhat limited with the hardware.

I have tried installing Windows XP on the hard drive via my Compaq desktop and putting the hard drive in the Beetle - I think this is where the problem lies - something to do with the hardware being configured for the Compaq?

I have tried fiddling with the settings, checked the RAM and nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know how to solve the problem or another way of installing the OS without a CD-ROM drive?

Any help will be much appreciated :)

Hello and welcome to the forums. We should be able to help

I have recently purchased a Wincor Nixdorf Beetle Point Of Sale computer. It does not have a CD-ROM drive and nowhere to add one so I am somewhat limited with the hardware.

This is unfortunate but there is a work around with the use of a flash drive

This will not work as by installing XP on your Compaq machine then switching it over to the other machine it has already setup the machine to work on the Compaq with the likes of Windows drivers for the Compaq and thus will not work.

First of all get yourself a large enough flash drive and copy all the contents of your genuine Windows XP Edition disk in the same order as it is on the disk.

Once that is finished go onto your computer without the disk drive and go into the bios and set the first boot device to USB Flash Drive. Once you have done this hopefully *fingers crossed it will start to install Windows XP.

*note i haven't actually tried this method hopefully somebody can back this up that it does infact work. But I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had tried installing off a flash drive from the turorial http://www.computerforum.com/189015-how-install-os-off-flash-drive.html but it did not recognise the flash drive when I inserted it into the computer without the disk drive. I will try again as I'm sure I did something wrong.

I'll see how I get on. :)

No worries yeah just make sure you set the first boot device in the bios to USB Flash Drive and you should be good to install the OS good luck. :)
