system disk boot failure????

my first boot up, it goes system disk boot failure, i put in the xp disk, press enter and after like 10secs, same error comes up. wat have i done wrong when puttin all the parts in?? what causes this message? how do i fix it?

The only thing I can think of is corrupted info on the disk.
Is the installation disk an OEM?

First you haven't reassigned the first boot device in the bios to still see the same error message. Most likely the master boot record has been damaged and you need that repaired. Have an old 98 startup floppy hanging around? Before performing a repair install you can simply type "fdisk /mbr" at the dos prompt when booting from an old 98-ME floppy or boot from the installation disk and use the "Fixmbr" command at the recovery console command prompt. Fixboot is another command there. But sometimes that will write a new boot sector then requiring the install to repair method. The 98 floppy works great here when needed.
