System disk swapping.

First to warn you, that I'm not really into computers.
Now to the problem.
I have a 9gb HDD which is getting full. I bought a 250gb to replace it. Thing is that the 9gb one has all the system files and upgrades collected for the past 2 years. I do not want to go through the trouble of reinstalling everything IF there is another way.
Is it possible to place the system files to the 250gb HDD and make it the system disk without significant data loss or something?
(more info: I have a 60gb disk I used for other stuff which is also in the same machine)

To be honest its only a 9 gb drive, how much could you really have on it to back up. Instead of cloning the drive to the 250gb it would be alot better to just do a clean install

yeah quite true but if the 9Gb drive still works i would still put it to use for backups.
