System Fan Error?

Ok now I'm starting to get really frustrated. I went to the Big E today and when I got home, my parents went to turn on their PC on to play some Pogo, but when they turned it on they get the following message with a black screen in the back ground

"ERROR: System Fan Failure
System shutting down in 10 seconds"

Then it shuts down.

So I took it apart Cleaned everything inside and out. Cleaned all 3 fans CPU, Case, and even the power supply fan hooked it back and left the panel off to see if everything is running properly, needless to say all the fans are running fine, so I have no clue what it could be. Anyone have any ideas?

HP 544N
P4G533-LA motherboard
Intel Celeron 82 2.0ghz Processor.

Needless to say all fans are running, but are you still getting the error? Hehe, I'll assume so :P

Can you test a fan in another system to be sure it still registers it's RPMs? If so, find one and be sure it works. Then go around and test all the motherboard fan headers. I'm wondering if just one of your fans doesn't send out it's RPM signal anymore.

Now that you mention it none of those fan have ever registered with Speedfan. Everytime I would run Speed Fan where it says RPMs there is always ????

I will try the fans in one of others systems.

Ok both the CPU and the Case fan register in SpeedFan on my other Compaq and run fine. Still when I put them back into the HP I get the same error message and it shuts down

Very strange...almost like a motherboard issue... If there are any other fan headers on the motherboard, connect fans to them. If it still won't work, reset the CMOS. If you don't have the jumper, remove the battery for a while. Some people say 10 minutes will be enough to clear, but I'd say let it go over night :P

Let me go try another port.............................................

Just because the fans work in another computer doesn't mean the header is good on your board. And to boot, even if you plug the CPU fan into another header it will still give you that error. You have to test that header, and the only way to do it is to try another fan and see if you get a reading. If you don't, the header is toast. I've seen blown headers before.

Listen, there's no telling exactly how a fan will be read via SpeedFan or if a header's connected properly. I have a tach lead coming from my power supply that goes to the motherboard. If it's not connected, I cannot read the temperature off my slave hard drive! How f'd up is that? The speed sensor on your fan could be dead too, like The_Other_One says.

BTW, first mention I've ever seen in any forum about the Big E :D Howdy, neighbor!

Well that is the only plus to living in Mass live 2 minutes from the Big E. When I was a kid it was local fair and now I see plates from Canada, Texas, California its nuts how far people drive to see this thing, where are you from ?

Ok well I'm off to the Computer store to pick up a few fans to start with and see if they will register. if not I'm just going to look for a different Mobo

Not quite 2 minutes away like you  but more like 15. Same area code;)

You should be able to turn off the speed monitoring in the BIOS. It's cheaper than replacing the motherboard.
