System fan failure

My computer only has a case fan, which blows through and air duct onto the CPU heatsink, and when I turn it on all it says is "system fan failure, will turn off in 5 seconds," and then proceeds to shut off after 5 seconds. I can't enter BIOS or anythign and the fan works fine, I even tried a new fan and that ran just fine, too, but my comuter keeps doing the same thing. Any suggestions are really appreciated.

It sounds like the bios information is being lost due to a weak battery or a need to reflash the bios with an update. Hopefully the bios EProm isn't failing on you. Generally when the bios fails to detect a working hardware that would be the place to start looking for problems.

The system specifications for the HP model in your sig can be seen at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...=en&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00002899#N412

The bios update and others like updated drivers for the board can be downloaded directly from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=307588&lang=en
