System fans

Hi all,

Just wondering.....What happens if a fan was to stop working?

Like the Cpu fan or a case fan?

Would the system warn you of a failed fan or something?
specialy on older computers like mine?

My fans are fine and my system remains cool but my system is over 3 years old now and i suppose that the fans wont last forever so should they be replaced after a certian amount of time?

Thanks ;)

I think you would have to have a program like SensorView Pro or Speed Fan to let you know if it has a low RPM or has stopped working... P.S. How's Icon Tweeker going?

Hi Kornowski,

Yeah i already have Speedfan instaled so i do monitor the speeds.

But do you get a warning if a fans failed?

I was using Icon Tweeker for a few days but now usig the Vista transformation pack so that already has nice icons.

most pc's now have a fan failure alarm built into BIOS, but if it does fail without warning, then at worst there could be a fire. it will without a doubt blow your processor and probably the motherboard

Hey,

Awesome! Well, You could probably see the speeds drop in SpeedFan or have the alarm in the BIOS go off... You may even be able to hear that it has stopped...

Usually fans last longer than anything depending if you dust them off. The best thing to do is go to the BIOS and set the safety feature that shuts off the pc when the CPU gets to hot. That way if you can't hear anything the pc will just shut off to prevent the CPU from frying.
