System hangs at bootup. MB problem?

Hello,

I have Gigabyte GA-7IXEH motherboard.

I am sure this is some hardware problem. What has been happening is that when I attempt to turn on the machine to boot to windows 2000, the boot hangs at the windows 2000 logo screen. After pressing reset for around 2 or 3 times, I successfully boot to the login screen.

What I would like to know is what is causing this. I think it perhaps might be a component on the board that does not like being cold or something. Could it be bad RAM? I am sure its not the OS, since there has been no crashes in safe mode or when I have successfully booted.

I feel maybe the motherboard might be the problem. Anyone got any clues?

You could look at a few things like a bios update or the lithium battery if you have had the board in use for any lengthy period of time. But it is likely a Windows related problem. You can try the system file checker if you have the 3000 installation disk onhand to verify the condition of the system files themselves to see if something damaged or deleted one. You simply type "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt to start the scan there.

The other possible cause could be some type of spyware or malware infection being seen. Have you run any scans for something on that idea?
