system overheating?

wasn't sure where to post this. but i think my system may be overheating. either that or my chassis fan is just messed up

here's what's happening.
at random, sometimes right after pushing the power button, sometimes when logging into windows, sometimes when doing stuff, one of my chassis fans starts to make a very loud noise. sounds like it's revving up very high

i have tried to blow out the fan with a can of airduster, but did not have any left to bloe out the rest of the system. it doesn't seem to be too dirty in the system though

i'm thinking it's a heating issue due to the fact that the system is in a desk where it has room to breathe, but personally i don't think it's enough room.

reason i think it's the fan, sometimes, when i take the side panel off, it stops. other times, it will still do it until i tap the side panel against the desk or whatever.

don't know what all information you would need, but here's what i could find in the BIOS about temps.

CPU temp 47C/116F
system temp 31C/87F
cpu fan speed 5080 RPM
fan3 speed 0rpm
VCore 1.73V
3.3V - 3.33V
5V - 4.97V
12V - 12.72V

CPU speed - 100.2 X 14 = 1403

does all this sound about normally? i don't know what any of this is suppose to be at

do you think i am looking at maybe an overheating issue, or more likely the fan itself going out?

thanks

Hey...
All your BIOS Settings look normal to me. Sometimes the fan will do it that, tell me is your room cold in the morning (I mean quite cold not just a little) because that can sometimes cause a computer fan to make that load noise.

Besides you hear the noise our Dell computer fans makes in the morning at college :P thats loud.

Anyway more to the point I wouldn't say that your looking at an overheating issue, since you have haven't set custom BIOS options.
The fan may be nearing the end of it's live though.

i don't think it would be an issue with it being too cold. yeah, it does get kind of cold here, nothing like it was up north more though where i used to live
but we leave the heater on all night so it stays fairly decent in the house

with it being only the one fan, when i have two that are connected together, that's why i kind of figured it'd be an issue with the fan. thanks

by the way, what kind of dell do you have? is it still in warranty?

47C sounds too high for an idle temp. Your computer is probably upping th fan RPM level at it's overheating warning, and at that speed it rattles/sounds louder. Look into a new fan maybe, or tigetening the oen you have to stop it from rattling.

12.72v on your 12 line also seems like a pretty big spike, it might be going bad. If it hits over 13v I'd look into a new PSU, same as if it drops below 11v.

You might just need to clean out your PC and fasten all the fans. Loose fans make rattling. IF it still overheats, you might need a new heatsink to help it cool down better.

thanks all
is there some kind of program i can download (for free of course) that will allow me to monitor my system temps from within windows?
i'm looking to see if there is a pattern to the revving up and figure out if this is a heat issue or if my fan is just crapping out on me.
i figure that would be about the best way to test it. thanks
