System Restore Storage

Hello, just wondering, i know it sounds like a dumb question, but, how do i find out how much storage system restore is using on my harddrive?

Control panel>performance and maintenance>system>system restore. It tells you the percentage and the actual size.

you can turn it off and save like 5 gigs on ur harddrive , and if u ever need to do a system restore (if u have a disk) all you have to do is the one with the backup , where it restores ur system and backsup ur files

You'll have to show hidden files and folders, then start>my computer>local disc> The system volume information has the restore folder.

so if i turn of system restore do i automatically gain substantial space, owing to the deletion of prior system restore points?

You need windows XP pro to be able to adjust the folder security settings to be allowed to see how large anything in system volume information is, it's system level locked by default.

as soon as you disable restore it will delete all points created

oh, also, local disk is my hard drive where windows is stored, correct right? i assume you want me to go into the properties and not the hard drive itself, because the harddrive itself just has all bunches of folders in it. but anyways in the properties i can't find anything anyways!

No, not the properties, the c: drive if thats what your hard drive is. Then you'll see a folder called "system volume information", the size of that is how much space system restore is taking.

you can't open it or see what's in it becuase it is a 'SYSTEM' owned folder, you need XP Pro to be able to adjust the security settings to be able to get in there
