System Restore??

Ok. I do not know much about computers..... I just need help. I installed a webcam badly and now i cant use it, remove it, install it or install anything else in any of the USB ports. Also i think i got a virus and i cant get rid of it. I have backed up all of my files on my memory stick and tryed to use system restore, i clicked a date and told it to restore until then but when my laptop turned back on it came up with a message: failed to restore to the 3rd January 2006. No changes have been made. Please help me restore my laptop! I've tried everything in my knowledge to do something but i dont know?!?

if you have backed up everything and wouldnt mind it completely wiped you could format the drive (re-install windows) but only as a very last measure.

ive gotten that message in the past as well, try restoring to a point a few days earlier.

I lost the disc for XP

And i'll try restoring it now.....

the system restore sometimes keeps the viruses you have when you restore.

I have tried going back to the 3rd of January which is the earliest on there and i have tried to go back a few days but it wont let me????

Looks like he'd have an easier time killing a virus than this webcam program though

I guess there arent any before that...but, maybe a bit more ahead? Just not AFTER you did this. Try to get as close to when you did this as possible.

This virus wont go either i've downloaded loads of antivirus and antispyware programs but none of them work not even norton.

Although, the main reason i want to do this is to get my webcam working.

And the webcam problem was before the 3rd of Jan.....

I don't really know much but would it be possible to burn XP to a disk and then wipe my HD clean so i can install it again??

You have to have an XP install cd bought from a store, or bundled with the computer. (or a recovery partition)
