System won't boot - Help Please!

Hello all, this is my first post so forgive me if this is the wrong forum.

I have a major problem and I can't figure out what exactly is causing the problem.

Windows XP will not start up. When I reboot the system I see the initial diagnostics screen and logo and can even get into the bios. However when I let it continue to the operating system my monitor then displays that there is no image to display. Windows never begins, the screen just stays black.

Do you think this is a hard drive issue and that a possible reformat is needed or could it be something else? I would hate to have to reformat all over again, and will try all other options before I have to do so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In my past experience, if thiers a problem with the HD, it usually tells you, however thier was that one time.....anyways, that's last resort. I'm just kinda shooting form the hip here, but in your BIOS, is it set up to boot a HD? Check there first, since you can get there. I'd also see if you can't boot in safe mode. You could also try booting to your XP disc and try a repair.

I checked the boot preference in the bios and everything is ok. I tried starting in safe mode but that didn't work. I guess I will try to repair the with xp disk.

Anybody think this could actually be corrupt software on the hard drive?

^ Well that seems the best luck you can have. If somehow you corrupted some system files or video drivers....
