system32.exe error on startup

for some reason, about a day ago i booted up my computer and got this error message stating that 'system32.exe' is missing. i have no clue because i didnt do anything... or so i think.

can anyone help me out? anymore info u need, just ask. any help greatly appreciated.
 
well what i know is that you go into bios and boot from CD... so you then press anykey on start up when it prompts you and then once it boots you'll be asked what you want to do...

it should be r for repair and then repair it! i think you might need a specific command! like chkdsk.

someone else might be able to help a little more :)
 
I'm running XP Home and did a search including hidden files for System32.exe and it returned nothing.

Are you sure it is not a virus or remnant from it? Has your anti virus flagged anything up previously?

Google it and read what a lot of sites are saying.

did u even look at the picture i have included of the error message. its both, get ur facts straight.


and TFT, i already did a search on it. some says its viruses and crap. i followed the lead and found notin of the sort they have described in the solutions. and no my computer is clean, im pretty sure.

i kno this problem has occured b4 and i think someone posted about it long time ago but i cant find the thread.
 
On my PC there is no such thing as a system32.exe (I've always known about a folder but not an exe). Are you running Vista?

nahh, windows xp pro. sp2.

think i should post up a hijack log then? cuz i dont kno how to read those, but it might help solve the problem..:confused:

it would go away. lol.

wel i went out and during that time, i gave the spyware scan another try, this time it did pick up a bug. i deleted it and the error message didnt show up again, hopefully thats the last of w/e bug that was on my comp. for now i guess its fixed. ima do more scans when i have more time to see if there is anything else. :)
