Taking Computer Apart - Question

Hey,
I might be getting this and I would have to take out my mobo. I was just wondering if unplugging everything from the mobo, and taking everything out (wires, PCI cards, vid. card) will erase any settings, preferences, programs, anything. Is anything affected, will I have to reinstall anything?

Thanks in advance,
Derek

As long as you hook everything back up and dont touch the CMOS jumper or mobo battery, nothing should get erased.

And you dont need to take out the motherboard to install that.

Well i wouldnt be 100% sure about that as sometimes the larger sized HSF need to have a plate on the underside of the motherboard so that it has extra support and helps to prevent strain on the board.

Yeah, you need to take your mobo out for that. Theres about 3 layers of pads and metal to stick on below. Still, stops nearly a KG of copper falling on yer very expensive graphics card!!

Yeah, you do have to take it out. But everything should be fine? Do you think it will fit, or could it hit other stuff? Thanks a lot.

Derek

Well, your case dimentions:

Depth: 473 mm
Width: 205 mm
Height: 522 mm

And the Typhoon:

122 x 122 x 103 mm

So i cant see the Mobo, CPU etc taking up 83mm!

So, it should be ok. I have about 3 inches between my window and the top of the fan.

You own the same HSF helmie? How do you like it? And the main thing I'm concerned about is it hitting stuff on the mobo.

Thanks,
Derek

Yeah, i bought mine a few days ago. It brought my idle temp from around 40 Degrees to 26 degrees (Average about 30)

Under load, I havent seen the temp go past 45 Degrees :D

It really is a superb HSF. Most of the thing is raised up by the 6 heatpipes, so you shouldnt have any problems with it hittin the mobo, onlty the hight is really a concern, but you have a big enough case for it.

EDIT: Heres my post about it, with some pics:
