Taking computers apart and reassembling them

Bought my friends computer for 200 dollars/100 pounds. Hope it was worth that. Just wanted a computer to practice on. Take apart then reassemble. Also take the OS off then put back on etc. thinking of taking the A+ exam one day. Is the CPU under the fan and this metal thing I guess is the heatsink? I just managed to get it just now. Is it under that because it gets so hot?

Is it possible to take the whole computer apart then put it back together. used letters to tell me which bits go where e.g. A plugs into A etc..

Yes the CPU is under the "fan and this metal thing", and the heatsink is there indeed because of the amounf of heat processors dissipate... make sure you won't turn the computer on if the HSF is not properly attached, because those things can fry out instantly if no proper cooling is installed.

And yes, of course it's possible to take it apart and then reassemble. Just make sure that you won't damage the parts, and you'll do good.

that metal thing is the heatsink, right? I hope I put it all back together. I guess i will find out when i hook it up to my monitor to play with it further.

There are some excellent videos over on youtube on how to install and remove a heat sink properly.Just do a search under intel processors and AMD processors. Both AMD and Intel have factory videos there.

yea don't forget this.

The new HP processors can completely destroy themnselves within 10 seconds.

HP: High preformance.

unless of course, you lap the processor and heat sink, then you might be able to get better thermal transfers, but dont take my word for it

A+ exam is not necessary and doesn't pay very well. I'd suggest a bachelors degree in Management Information Systems.
