taking files off 10 yr old hard drive

I am helping someone take the files off a computer that runs Windows 95. It is at least 10 years old. I have tried with floppies but the computer is too stubborn. Should I get a hard drive enclosure or if not, what should I do.
The computer I am putting the stuff onto is a lap-top

Do you have access to a desktop computer? If so you could take it out and slave it onto the new computer and burn it to a disk.

No access to a desktop sadly. Do you think that is the only way to get it to work. Should I get an enclosure

Yes, an enclosure seems like a good idea. But if you want a cheaper solution, see if a friend will let you load the drive into their computer and get the files from there. I don't think the drive will be worth much after you salvage the files.

That computer might not even use standard 3.5" harddrives. I had an old windows 95 comp before and the harddrive was huge, but really flat and thin.
