Any one know of a good talk and type program?
You know the ones that you have to trane all the
words to.
When you talk it does the typing for you.
I am not to good at typing.Pretty slow.
Thanks Doug

Well, I tried this Dragon Naturally Speaking program about 3 or 4 years ago (back in version 6 of it) and it did an ok job, except that I can type average to fast and so having to deal with certain quirky inaccuracies of the program cost me more time than just typing things.

I suppose that in the last 3 to 4 years they have made some significant improvements, so you can check it out. The latest version is 9.

Now, I'll drop the bomb on you. It's not all that cheap. The Standard version is about 100 bucks and the Preferred version around 200 bucks. You just have to see how badly you need or want it.

Check it out here:

What program are you using it in?

I know that for MS Word Micrsoft has a built in program that you can speak and it types it for you.

I dont know exactly where it is, I know its under Control Panel.

Text-to-speech is under Control Panel>Speech

Yes MS word does have a built in one, but if you don't have Word, it's about $350 (so you might as well go with the other one.)
If you want to be serious about voice recognition, you can go as far as to download windows vista. It comes with a built in voice recognition system which works with Wordpad/Notepad/other text editors.
It may not really be worth installing another OS, but it's the only free way I know of. I typed about half of this message with it, and it worked pretty well.

For Word's text to speech (Word 2003 only) you can find it under the tools menu in word. You will need to have the Word CD handy, though.
