task manager issue

For a while I've had a problem with my task manager on windows XP. When I hit crtl+alt+delete, it now opens up with nothing but CPU usage and CPU usage history - no buttons, no tabs.

I first had this problem while using an IM program which crashed.

Can anyone suggest how I might fix this problem?

It sounds like something did a job on a few system files there. With an XP installation disk in the drive unless you have a preinstalled OS you can run the system file checker by typing "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt and simply press enter or click the ok button. This will take seveal minutes to first verify the system files it reads and then repair or replace anything found damaged or missing. If this was very recent a restore point going back before the IM program was installed could also be tried. But before the 1st of May?

It's a function of taskmanager... to get it back to normal you just need to double click where it says CPU Usage or anywhere in the boarder for that matter, then it will go back to normal.
