I think it is more the principle and the anti-griefers

I can see how the "premium account" isn't appealing at all as it doesn't add much to the game play, but in all honesty I would be happy if some old FPS goes free. It'll get more people to play which can be refreshing as old games tend to become boring as there's less dynamic game play when you're playing with the same people every day.

I have kinda mixed feelings about this. I personally loved the game but kinda lost interest in it in the past year. Imo, its been going downhill (relatively fast) ever since the update with hats came out (I think it was before engineer update but I really don't remember). Regardless, it would be cool to get some sort of bonus for having paid for the game but I don't like how over the top some items have gotten so I really wouldn't want an item. At the same time, I don't care all that much because the game is pretty old and I've stopped playing it. I guess it might be kinda cool to play with my brother (who just started gaming this past year so it didnt make sense for him to buy it).

Hopefully this turn of events will help with the current situation involving the huge number of idling servers versus actual servers. The last time I played TF2 was about 5 months ago and that is due to the fact that I haven't been able to find a proper server to play on.

There seems to be a big trend at the moment, whereby big publishers are releasing F2P or browser game versions of their big hits Battlefield Play4Free, and now Team Fortress 2) I say I'm all for it! It's not like you've lost money if you paid for it - you would have still enjoyed and played the game, right?
