Temperature Question

Now, I was wondering, since my computer is running hot (60-61C) at just normal internet usage/idle, and even hotter while gaming (close to the 80'sC), would it be safe to take the side off the computer to let it air out?

And, if that doesn't help much, would it be safe to use a normal floor house fan, on low, to get some cooler air in there?

Yes, so long as you don't stick out hand in there, it will be safe.

Dusty, but safe :)

The bigger question I would ask would be 'Why is my CPU running at 60*?" Has it always been like that?

Well it's not the CPU running at that, it's the GPU. (I'm not a big computer term person, so I'm assuming those are different things.)

It's happened a few times before, and each time we take it in to get fixed, get a few fans swapped out, etc etc.

I've had the side of the case off for almost an hour now and already the GPU has dropped to 55, so a 5 degree drop just from that.

When I play games and such, I play on just plugging mu fan in and have it aimed at the wall near the computer so it flows from there into the case as to not disrupt whatever dust is in there. (It's ew, really)

Oh, heh, well a GPU is a total different story:) They typically are made to withstand high temps like that. I'd leave it, honestly. You can leave the side of the case off to help with the heat dissipation, or if you have a spare 3-pin MoBo fan connector, you could put an 80mm fan in the case and angle it towards the bottom of the video card; just need to make sure it's nestled in nicely so it doesn't fall.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it, other than the fact that I once had to get the GPU card replaced the one time since it completely fried.

I guess I'm just a little paranoid?

Should be fine, just don't put it where something can fall in. Last thing you need is to short something out..
