Temperatures in general

I recently upgraded my computer parts, I ended up purchasing the correct GPU which works perfectly with my psu. I also purchased a new cpu, FX 8320, using a custom cooler I already had, Arctic Pro Rev 2. I'm just looking for some general advice, when idle I have temperatures of around 35-38c CPU and similar mobo values. When playing cpu intensive games like GTA 5 I get temperatures of around 68c CPU and 76c mobo, are these values safe for a prolonged period? I also get tiny lag spikes where I believe cpu throttling is occuring. I reapplied my thermal paste just to be sure and I have noticed small improvements. Have you any advice for me? I also have the ASUS m5a78l-m/usb3 motherboard. Thanks for any help.

That's a bit warm. It's also kind of a gamble using an 8 core on that board.

What thermal paste did you use?

Yes I knew that when I bought it but I didnt have too much choice. I used 'Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound'. Thank you for the response, do you think the upgrade to a new cooler would help? I'm considering the Arctic Freezer 13 CO edition. I currently use the arctic pro 7 rev 2.

CPU wont throttle at 68oC. The fact that the mobo is getting warmer indicates lack of case ventilation. Try improving the case air flow over the VRMs and other mobo components and look to have more fans extracting than input fans. Ie 3 exhaust, 2 input fans with one 120mm fan pushing air over the motherboard. In terms of the temps though, they're within acceptable limits.

After a long time trying to solve this I went onto Amd overdrive, disabled turbo core control and everything has been solved. Temperatures of my mobo are now 65c at most and my cpu doesn't reach 60c. I'm very pleased.
