Tension/Pressure on the CPU Socket Lever

I am building my first rig and have a quick question.

Should there be enough pressure on the CPU socket lever that it bends a tad? Everything looks to be in its proper place.

Should I really use the thermal paste? The chip comes with a nice heatsinc, if that is what that really cool looking thing is that attaches on top.

Too late. I placed the heat sinc on top of it and the took it off. I noticed that it left a paste of its own on the chip. It looks like it has it already on the contact areas...

Geez, I feel so much like a nooob....I guess I am!!

I usually wipe that stock crap off the heatsink and use Arctic Silver 5 instead.
 
Can I do it later? Or, is it too late. Also, quick question, as I am new to this, I purchased a third party heatsinc. Is it possible, or do I even need to at this point, to switch out the Intel heatsinc and replace it with the third party heatsinc I bought? The motherboard is already installed and connections have been made. I haven't turned it on yet.
 
You shouldn't take it off and on for the fun of it. It's a thermal interface area, and air is a good insulator of heat. when you take it off and put it back on it leaves air gaps which is bad.

It is necessary to have thermalpaste, with stock and aftermarket cooling alike.
