Hello folks, Im trying to help out a friend, a certain important file of hers wont open with TextEdit all of a sudden. Needless to say shes invested a lot of work in it, and shes not happy:)

Shes using the default version of TextEdit and has 10.3.9 as her OS.

This seems to be a very similar error, she gets the same error message and such. I have not tried using that BBEdit program, mainly because I live about 2 hours away, plus I only have PCs myself, and that program doesnt appear to work with 10.3.

Is there a program similar to BBEdit that would work on the PC? Does this even seem like a feasible solution?

The only other information I have is that she did rename the file shortly before it stopped opening. It sounds to me like somehow the file got corrupted, I just dont know what to do about it.

There is another friend who lives closer to her that has access to a newer Mac OS. So ive been trying to provide him with info too.

Anything tips, tricks, advice, etc would be GREAT.

Well, she emailed me the file and I was able to open it with Notepad and recover the text. I tried the repair and recovery options in MS Word 2003 but that didnt work.

Got the text I needed, all the formatting was gone though, but the important thing was the text, thanks anyways.
