Finally I got my system to power up. problem was the motherboard was touching the case, and it was having hard time turning on the power for the system. But now I can go into bios and everything, and made sure that all the parts are installed correctly and it is all fine. but when i tried to install windows xp from the cd rom, it says put in system disk. Do i have to do something before install windows os?

set bios to boot from cd insert the disk and you may have to restart haven't done it for a while and it should say press any key to boot from cd

On Bios (That black screen showing all about your computer)
Continually Tap DEL (it may not be DEL, Whatever your computer says to get to Setup)

But, Once your into Your Setup.

Go To Boot Priority

Set to Boot From CD

Insert CD In computer

Reboot

Watch for "Press any key to boot from cd"

Follow Prompts on how to format windows, or ask here, if you got no idea.

yea. I set up everything correctly and made the system to boot up from cd rom. When I put xp cd in and let it boot from there, it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". I have 3 XP cds and tried it on other computers, and they work fine. My MOBO is Asus M2N SLI deluxe. Do I have to do something before installing OS?

have you set the boot order correctly? Disable your floppy if you have one or put it at the very bottom of your boot sequence. Also make sure that your optical is recognise and that its plugged in correctly.

Try this, not sure if it will make a difference, but when it's booting up, instead of hitting Delete or whatever to enter BIOS, hit F8 and see if it will take you to a boot screen. If so, select the CD drive that has the Windows Disk on it.

hey guys! THank you! I will do whatever you guys said to do when I get home! I am working now! Thank you!

hey guys. I am about to go home now. But I have few questions that just came up in my mind. Can I use the windows xp cd that I got from dell to install the os for my new system? if not, is there any way that I install the dell windows xp cd on my computer? Thanks.

do you have a disk or do you just want to know if u can use the dell disk no you cannot use your dell xp cd

it is actually a window xp home edition cd. it is not recovery. I am currently installing it without problem, but on the outside of the xp package, it say only dell pc. so let me try this and see what happens! Thanks!

Do you use the Dell PC anymore?

If so, I think this is illegal and I wouldn't do it.

If not, get the Product Key off of the side of the Dell and I still think you shouldn't do it though.

i have had 5 dells and i am pretty satisfied with them. I use them for my business and i think I it would be fine if they work. Thank for your concern!

you might not be able to activate them so then you can't get updates and after 30 days you won't be able to boot correct me if i'm wrong
