That Computer Club Build... Updated.

Well, my computer club rep finally announces the specs he wants for his rig... that completely ruined my previous plan. Here's the specs:

Must have mouse, keyboard, and speakers (Must be 5-button mouse)
At least 4GB of RAM
At least 500GB of hard drive capacity.
Under 1000$ including shipping.
Pretty good looking case, not extraordinary.
Must be decent/entry-level gaming rig (hard to do with that budget :/ )

Here's what I have so far (http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16969327)... it's like 10$ over budget, which isn't acceptable, and I feel like it's not a very good setup. I've done research and it seems like AMD is the only choice, but I haven't looked at i3 yet.

you can save some money:

Get a cheaper case (cm storm scout is only $89.99!), get him a caviar back 500gb (still plenty of room, and thats his minimum), get an i3 and use the stock cooler. that means changing the mobo too, you could probably get a cheaper one.

that will save you some money, then you can upgrade to a better gpu or something, like a 5770, or whatever is his preference.

get a phenom 940 instead of the 955. you can overclock a 940 to 3,2ghz without even bumping the voltage. that saves $10.

ditch the antec 900 and power supply combo. get a CM storm scout or an haf 922. this will save another $20-30

Recertified? It's a power supply, I'm not gonna get a recertified power supply.

There is nothing wrong with a recertified power supply, ive picked up recertified power supplies before without issue. Recertified units have to meet the same specifications as brand new units of the same manufacture.

Lets see what we can improve, first off this is a good combo deal with a case and psu:

Faster HDD:

And then remove the aftermarket hsf.

that case is very expensive.... AZZA makes good cases, the antec 300 or wtv the blue one with the fans is a very good case and only like 69 dollars i think, blue leds and fans! :D

Well, that definitely makes the build more well-rounded, but brings the price to approx. 1070$. After taking off the code and MIR (note that he accepts MIRs as part of the budget, so 1020 - 20 MIR = 1000 in his book) it comes to like 1040$. Anything else I can change?: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=16969327

I added an aftermarket heatsink... so that brought the price to ~ 1000$, the Scout doesn't have a MIR and has 20$ shipping. So, that's a tad out of budget.

Any other suggestions?
