The Beggining of the end?

Ok, im becoming a little etchy lately. Sure call me a geek I don't care lol. But consols are defying the laws of nature now. Computers are always supposed to be more powerful then consols. When ps3 comes out I don't know what's gonna happen. I'm not big on consol gaming and the games being made for the pc's now to keep up with the 360 are insane. Gothic 3 coming out soon, MINIMAL 3.2ghz?! Not all of us have that. I'm on a 2.8 here. It's beggining to make me think that in a few more years pc gaming is gonna be dead. I mean, yea there keeping up, but with a hefty price. I cant spend 800 bucks on a dual core, and a 2 512 video cards, and the mobo. along with 3 1gig sticks. Man whats going on here?!

PCs still kick consoles butts, consoles have lower resolutions, etc. And the 3.2GHz is only a reference to the old Pentium 4, which you seem to have. My little 3200+ is the equivalent or so to about a 2.6, 2.8. It was 100 dollars. My graphics card, capable of running Half Life 2 at full settings at 1152X864, was 109 dollars and is cheaper now. I can store 160GB of stuff on my computer, the PS3 will only go up to 60, and will still have limited online capabilities. PC rules.

The reason PC gaming sucks is because you are constantly having to throw money at the damn thing to keep up with the latest games. The games are what's driving the hardware industry. Otherwise it would stagnate.

The nice thing about consoles is that you never have to piss around with drivers, hardware, compatibilities or anything. You just pop the game in and lo and behold, the thing works. Even an Xbox game released years after the release of the initial hardware still works. For hassle free gaming you simply can't beat a console.

For me, though, I only enjoy certain types of games on a console. For instance I hate playing FPS on a console because I hate the controls. I much rather use a mouse and keyboard. However, driving games on a 52" widescreen are the bomb. You just can't beat the experience.

Well, first off, researchers have been talking about the fact that silicon is reaching the point of saturation as far as speeds are concerned. And looking into other avenues of processing power... As for other costly aspects of this, it always has, and always will cost more to keep up with the good looking games. However, how good does a PS2 or XBox look graphically compared to current computers, and also when it first came out. It looked good, but now, kinda sub-par. Consoles are kinda stepping stones, whereas computers are a much smoother increase in performance. (Plus, it also helps that consoles have a fairly specific hardware specification to adhere to... :))

OK, pick a random PC game from around late 2000 and compare it to the Playstation 2's graphics. There was no comparison, eh? However, comparing games for say the Xbox 360 and the PC, I find them quite similar anymore. Perhaps it's just me, but I see the gap closing between a real difference in console and PC gamming. I beleive consoles will always be a step above PC's just because all their power is devoted to gamming. However, I saw some war game played on an Xbox 360 a few weeks back. Honestly, I thought it looked no better than it did on my old PC(that old Athlon 4000 I had) Plus, I saw the Xbox lag a good bit.

Now, I havn't kept up too much with these new systems. However, if you take however much a PS3 will cost and add that to the cost of just a basic computer, couldn't you get a pretty darn good gamming machine rather than a console and cheap computer?

Now if they only made more games for all systems. Why did Metal Wolf Chaos only come out for Xbox and not PC as well! Or PS2 since I actually have one :P

As has been said, the PC has a smoother path of upgrade, as well as it has many more capabilities than any gaming system out there. Once I see a console that can run AutoCAD and edit video just as good as any PC, I might switch. But that will never happen. They are "good" for what they do, and nothing else.

Yea to get similar quality from a pc is not difficult, pc's do have the capability of far surpassing graphic quality. Besides I like messing with my computer and upgrading and the like. :-)

Well not just that, the prices you speak of will lower alot, because the companies relize its the target market but in order to keep it that way they must lower the price, same with HDTV's in North Amercia next year will drop extremely low with the price of HDTV's because the Governments wants to run all hidef, so the CRTC and other boards have stated the stop to sales of standard tube/flat screen tv's and everything will be hidef, heaven sent? maybe but my point, in order t make sales and such, prices will be lowered derasticly

PC - It’s a business; the gaming industry drives the hardware industry.

Console - The console makers merely makes a profit of the console’s them selves,
but royalties from game sales! Hence, more games for the console.
