The best budget-chipset

Hey,

I am building a multimedia pc, just a pc where I do some surfing, watching movie, convertring movies, listening to mp3. I don't really game. Maybe a Fifa 08 or something.

And what I want is a mobo with a good chipset. I've heard that the 780G chipset is a good chipset. Is that correct? This is the one I was looking at:

I don't really know what to choose between a AMD or a Intel, but I prefer an AMD. But I did heard that the Intel also has some great chipsets.

Thanks

Thank you for your answer.
And what about it if I pair it with a 5000+? Or with a 5000+ black edition? I suppose it will go pretty good for a media pc, right?

Since you said the 780G I thought your were looking for one with onboard video. As far a AMD AM2+ boards the ones without onboard are the 770 and 790. Basically the 780G is just a 770 with onboard video.

I see. So, if I have intentions to place a gpu in it, I can just go for the 770 instead of the 780G? Is it cheaper?

And one more question. What does a better IGP provide? I mean, I have a 6100 northbridge and I think a 430 southbridge, what if I upgrade to that mobo with that kinda chipset?

Yea if your not going to be using the onboard video I would just go for the 770. Unless you want to dish out some more bucks and go for a 790X or 790FX that gives you support for crossfire. The 780G has better onboard video and its Direct X 10 compared to the 6100. The 780G/770/790F and 790FX has PCIe 2.0, better support for the Phenom and DDR2 1066 over the nforce 4/6100 . The 6100 chipset is just a nForce 4 chip with a onboard nvidia 6100 chip.

To throw a monkey wrench into it nvidia has the AM2+ 8000 series chip out now with onboard thats direct X 10 and the 750a/780a chip for SLI. The only thing about nvidia right now is they have a dead spot between the 8000 series and 750a. There is not single slot board unless you get the 8000 with onboard. Where AMD has the 770.

But I have heard that the 8000 series produce a lot of heat, and it is really recommended to put a fan on it. That's not really something that I am looking for to put in my multimedia pc.
