please help me . 2 hard drives broke on me with 400gb of foto, videos and various files , now I have 140 gb of files to save for years or decades,
should I save them on 10 USB keys at 16gb each..............or a soild state drive of 160 gb ........................or 10 SDcards of 16gb each..
or you can suggest other mediums? I don't trust spinning hard drives anymore...too delicate ,break easy and impossible to repair
thank you for any help

You should use RAID. It basically uses multiple hard drives to redundantly back up the data so that if one fails you do not lose everything because it was also written on another hard drive.

You could also put everything on a hd and put it in the bank XP

depends on which raid level you implement. I used to use tape back ups..to expensive,,, i just buy another hard drive and clone the hard drive in the pc and put it away.

Yeah I was only half kidding about the bank thing, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take ^^^his^^^ suggestion though.

long term data storage

thanks for your answers , but what is a raid ? a box with 2 or more HDs inside ?does it come like that or I have to put them together ?
just plug and play,it will automatically copy data on both drives or I have to transfer the data manually on each drive ? and which one do you recomend ?
regarding my previous question about USB keys , SDcards and SSD, are they good for long term storage ?
what machine could last the longest for long term storage ?
sorry for all the questions but I'm hungry for learning more,
thanks again

RAID is a multi-drive setup - that can be set up in different configurations depending on your desired function.

RAID 1 - is basically a redundancancy setup where you automatically write to both drives the same data. So if one drive fails - you still have all your data / operating system / applications / whatever was on the failed drive - in tact.

The only downside is - It won't protect you from a Trojan or malaware - or other malicious software from wreaking havoc on your drive however. Both drives will have exactly the same data on em.

I know you don't trust spinning drives to much, but why not get an external drive to use for saving the info and backups only?

I pretty much invest in an external hard drive and be very careful when handling and you should be fine. Just store in a safe place.
