The Components of Motherboards

Hi

Before I get to the topic at hand, I would like to ask if a microprocessor is considered to be an integrated curcuit? I think it must be, Im just not too sure. I happen to be familiar with the basic parts of a typical personal computer. What I want to know is what smaller parts "make up" these larger components such as a mother board or hard drive. I imagine there would be many capacitors, transistors, solder, diodes? Anything else. Any of you know of a website or book that "breaks down" and disects the smaller parts of a computer? Help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh.... look into a 3rd year University (from an Engineering university) course on Computer Architecture or something (seriously) .... a lot of the time their term project is to build a 32bit proc off a FPGA-->ASIC or something similar). You are correct in noting the microcomponents as being diodes, capacitors etcs but at the consumer level, thats meaningless ... of course if you want to look at it from an academic/theoretical perspective, again, look into those university courses ... fun fun.

Also do note that development for CPUs is one thing ... development for GPUs is an utterly different matter. Whereas CPUs are done by hand, GPUs are done using HDL (which results in a less efficient setup but at least then you can have a much shorter product turnaround time)
