Gateway 4025gz (built-in wireless)
Windows XP
Mozilla Firefox ver 1.0.7

situation:
1. went to Borders bookstore, and logged on to the local open wireless network as usual (I know, it's morally wrong to do so)
2. connected to internet as usual, everything fine.
3. next day, start up the computer
4. when I try to go to any site, the following error message in Firefox:

"The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.google.com"

I've tried changing the IP address, asking it to automatically assign a new IP address each time I log on, etc.

Any reason this would happen?

Whoever you were piggybacking off of changed most likely changed their permissions, sorry dude. Have you checked for sure that Border's isn't providing this connection as many bookstores and coffeeshops do (for free)? Then you might just need to get some authentication for it...

Yeah, I'd talk to that bookstore first. There may be a password or something else you've got to do before getting access. I remember staying at a hotel once and I had to type in a gateway. I knew the average person wouldnt know how to, even the front desk didnt know. :p
