The difference between P4 Northwood & Prescott

i really wanted to know the difference and which is better and why
and why the prescott operates at higher temps
all the CPU 101 says is that the prescott is
(going from NorthwoodC to Prescott adds an extra 512K or L2 cache, the Prescott architecture is significantly less efficient).
well i went from Northwood with 512 cache to my current processor with 1 mb
is the northwood really better ?
and why ?

With the Prescott the cache sizes are doubled but cache latencies are increased to which it somewhat offsets the increase in the first place. It also has 31 piplines vs the Northwood's 21. The performance is roughly the same, however Prescotts seem to have somewhat of a heat disadvantage.

If it came down to the two I would go for the Northwood due to Prescotts high power usage.

Hope that helps.

yes
much appreciated
but i really want to know more
from someone who has experience with the two processors
