my computer is having lots of problems, currently my network does not work lol,
It won't connect to the internet, Norton intrusion detection does not work,
And Linux won't install :rolleyes: I was sobbing to my older and wiser friend and he said the MAGIC words "FORMAT C:” I am currently backing up my HD :D

Why won't linux install? What problems do you get?
 
linux wont install? are u running windows now(as it said in ur signature)? or another version of linux?

did u set ur network right.. those can really be a pain..

try reinstalling norton

I have Mandrake Linux 8.1, I will post the error message later.

yes Windows XP Home, never had Linux
 
O and a question, what would be the best way to go about formatting the HD, I did it a while a go on an win me, I went to ad\remove a program and created a DOS boot disk,
But what about with XP
 
boot from CD and try installing windows, and you will get to some part to select where to install to, and selet and go to format or something similar to that.(been, what 2 days? and already i cant remmeber.)

ok hold on... u have Mandrake 8.1... thats THE one u were trying to install right? but as of NOW... its running XP right?..

if thats the case.. i've read through that network problem of urs.. lol.. seems like nothing worked.. they listed pretty much every possible solution for u.. that last one was kinda ridiculous.. but yea..

well.. it seems like u tried everything.. firewalls, re-networking it, ip addresses, passwords(password protection), never heard about the safe mode.. but that didn't work for u either... i really have no clue.. lol.. can it be HOME and PRO? that being the problem.. in either case.. u miight still have the same problem if u reformat...

as for linux.. there is a nice one out based on slackware.. its pretty stable.. n its free for download.. if ur interested let me know

its pretty nice and neat.. im running it on my old amd pc now for my brother

installation is pretty straight forward.. check the site. they will give u full details

select the download tab
choose standard or SOHO edition..
-- standard is standard..SOHO comes with some additional programs
click the first or second link under standard or SOHO
a directory type thing appears
click the ".iso" extension file
it should download automatically..or if u have an accelerator, copy the link into there
burn it.. ur set

are you sure it actually formats the HD
