is the "you have unused icons on your desktop" agent. i mean come on...maybe some people are lazy, but if something is on my desktop it's because i need it there. i hate that feature so much it often times makes me want to through my computer out the window. you want an unused icon removed, take the damn "my network places" off! who the hell has ever used that thing???

oh, following a very close 2nd is windows update. even if you turn updates off it has to put a gay little red icon in your taskbar to let you know you don't have automatic updates. that and if you don't disable them automatically entirely, and leave them to download but not install, you will still get a dialog box from your taskbar every 10 seconds until they are installed.

grr

haha i know what you mean about the automatic updates that was realy annoying.

im pretty sure most people who use Vista here would have to say UAC. (User account control)

damn that things annoying,I disabled that when i first booted to my desktop after installing vista its realy bad.
i know its there for a reason but i cant do with it enabled.

I agree. That unused icons icon the bottom is by far the most annoying thing I have ever seen on a desktop.

It defiantly is one of those tools added my Microsoft to make people feel like they actually worked on making our favourite OS.

But we all know that they just packed tonnes of random samples of code into a shot gun, fired it, and had a P.A go around collect them all. And then instead of actually putting it all together in a way that would make sense, they just had a gorilla and a chimpanzee hit their fists on the floor on top of all the random sections of code until Bill Gates was like, "Great work guys! now lets get to work on Vista."

Kent.

"is the "you have unused icons on your desktop" agent." if this bother you that much simply cut the aggrevation and turn it off. I take it you are running XP. If so go to the screen properties and click advanced. You will find an option to turn it off.

"take the damn "my network places" off! who the hell has ever used that thing???"

I use it all the time. If you had not set up a network on your system you would not have to bear the aggrevation of having to see it.

That little red icon comes from the Security centre. Simply go there and change the way the Security centre alerts you. Simple. Hope this helps ease your aggrevation.

I find almost everything about the new Windows versions annoying, especially Vista and compatability errors.

Start>>Control Panel>>Security Center>> *on the left* Change the Way Security Center Alerts Me. Then just uncheck everything. O and I use My Network Place all the time. It's so you can transfer files between computers on a network. Very handy. You can remove it by right click the task bar>>Properties>>Start Menu>>Customize>>Advanced. Then just uncheck My Network Place.

I have the Security center service disabled, as well as automatic update service. I keep a close eye on everything, and I tend to disable anything I don't realistically or readily need, workstation, UPnP, etc. I run a tight ship..
