The new 8800 GTS outperforms the GT ...

Just read this

We’re already used to the rapid development cycle of graphics processors, which typically means that a ‘new’ graphics card lasts about 6 months before it’s usurped by a better model, but Nvidia has outdone itself with its latest update.

Literally days after the GeForce 8800 GT arrived on the scene and showed up the current duo of 8800 GTS cards – particularly the 320MB version – Nvidia has already announced an updated 8800 GTS with the same 112 stream processors as the GT.

The guys over at Hardwarecanucks have already tested a sample and found that the performance is slightly better than an 8800 GT in Crysis, which means that if the price difference between the two cards isn’t huge the new GTS could be the better buy.

BFG is already listing the new GTS on its website with the label GeForce 8800 GTS EE OC, with the EE standing for ‘Extreme Edition’. Curiously, the site lists the number of stream processors in the GPU as ‘96++.’ We've asked BFG to confirm whether the card does indeed have 112 stream processors, locked at 1.3GHz – 200MHz slower than in a standard GT, but we've yet to receive a reply. However, if this is the case, then the Extreme Edition’s faster 565MHz GPU and 640MB of GDDR3 at 1.7GHz could still give it the edge.

We’ll have to wait until we have a new GTS with 112 stream processors in the Labs before we can give a definitive verdict, but it may be worth holding off on that order for an 8800 GT until the results (and prices) are in.

hmmmmm, wonder what the price is gonna be

I dont get nVidia, why would they just "update" their cards when they could market it as the 8900GT and 8900GTS?

Because they're probably working on something better, say the 9 series, and they're pushing out the newest 8 revisions to make way. In a couple months people are going to be clamoring over themselves to lay down even more money on the 97 or the 9800.

Is the price gonna be the same as the current GTS? If so, you can't beat $250 for something that traipses on the GTX's heels.

Interesting, but if the prices don't lower or atleast when the 9xxx series come out, looks like the GT is the best buy. As of now it looks like the rout i'll be taking.

Yeah i don't get it either, its going to cause some confusion for people not as knowledged about video cards, they should discontinue the 8800GTS and name it 8900GTS or something... eh i don't know just my opinion lol
