The normal amount of processes for vista

hey everyone i have windows vista and the total amount of process's i have when i first startup my windows is around 46 is this a normal amount or is this a little too much?

thanks

mine is 53 and its not long been wiped clean lol...

guess its just normal, worry about it when you havnt got enough resorces to deal with them

Haha, does anyone understand what all the system processors are for? Like is there like a list anywhere describing them, like maybe we could do without some lol.

I'm currently using 64-bit Linux Ubuntu as my operating system. My AMD Athlon 4000 Single-Core processor averages between 10 to 20 percent when idling. It also uses 428 megabytes when idling.

the processes are nothing to worry about-they use very small resorces like ram and cpu, think that they are just most of the programs you have on your computer just waiting to be used-

like your tv being on standby-all you have to do is click your remote and its on, basicly its quicker o have them processes on standby because they will come into action quicker when you need them.

anybody correct me if im wrong lol its just my theory

Yeah your probably right, but as your computer gets more full of crap, they can build up on each other and use rediculos amounts of resources lol, especially if your runnning a old computer.

Haha on a side note last night I formatted my old computer (under "current" in my sig) and reinstalled xp. 74mbs idle haha thats mean. Considering it was well over 300 before. :)

That's not the amount of processes. It's the amount of CPU is being used ;)

Ive heard that linux uses more ram than windows because it has like a um whats the word process type thing that uses all the ram all the time so it can push off to other programs when required really fast. If that makes sense.

What do you "idle" at with Vista? My CPU usage is 30%-32% on the desktop with no programs open.

Depends on the version. Ultimate x64 (me) will use more than let's say, Starter or Home Basic.

I use 43% with Firefox and downloading a file...

Your CPU idles at 30%???? Wow!!

Im using Vista Home Premium 64bit.

Mine flucturates between 0 - 1% CPU usage at idle. Are you guys sure your not talking about the RAM usage which my vista runs at 27% (4gb)???

Pre-load applications in the memory?

Yeah something like that, I dont know what its called but like linux makes up phantom programs or something and makes sure its using all the ram all the time so that its fast to spool up when required... Its something along those lines Ill try and find where I found this originally.

There's something wrong with your CPU usage sensor then. Only XP with nothing running can get 0-2%...

Hmmm thats odd.

Ive used both the Vista provided censor (little dash board guage thing)
AMD Censor
CPU-Z
And Gigabyte Easy Tune.

All say the same thing????

I'm sorry, that was my fault, yes I was referring to RAM usage and not CPU usage. CPU usage bounces between 2 and 4% on Vista Home Premium (2.0 Athlon X2). I apologize for the confusion.
