The old Quad-Core/Duo-Core situation, for graphic programs.

Im a graphic design student, and use the adobe suite very heavily. Since adobe programs work together almost seamlessly, at times i'll have 4 or even 5 graphics programs running at the same time. File size at time exceeds 1 gig and I am looking into gettin a quad-core. My current desktop has a duo w/ 2gb of memory and its just not gettin the job done. Good idea or not to upgrade? Thanks

Well, duh/.. I'll say you'd HAVE to upgrade. RAM is so dirt cheap nowadays, bumping it up to 4gb is customary when memory-intensive applications are concerned. What CPU do you have now? I've heard that Intel's planning dropping prices some time soon, so you may want to wait for the prices of the sexy hot 45nm quads to come down...

yeah a 45nm quad would do you some good
id recommend a q6600, but depending on the pricing and what you can afford, a q9450 would be worth it in my opinion.

lol, yea as i was writing that i felt like i was in the late 90s. Right now is some Intel Core 2, not sure of the model. But i guess it doesn't really matter what i have now, Im bying a new desktop and getting rid of that one. But from what i've read on other threads is that Quad is a lot faster than Duo. True?

depends what you are doing. for gaming no. for multitasking yes. what you are doing will perform better with a quad for sure.
