The operating system only recongnizes 137 GB of a 300 GB hard drive. How can i make it read the whole 300 GB? I have windows xp home edition service pack one. AMD Anthlon 2400 processor. BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6. 00PG.
 
SP1 should recognize over 137GB... but your BIOS may need to be updated. Also make sure you're using the latest available drivers for your chipset.

do what OvenMaster said about the drivers, but i would leave it alone, i wouldnt screw with the BIOS about that tiny issue.
 
You need at least four things to enable use of hard drives over 137GB:
BIOS
Chipset
Chipset Drivers
Operating System

So far all we know here is that the OS is indeed compatible. We do need to know the chipset itself. If it's an older PC, the BIOS may need that update in order to support large drives.
 
The jumpers on the hdd could be set to not allow more then that to be used, i know that on my hdds there is a jumper setting that only lets you use 30 gigs of its 75. Check your jumpers. Thats all i can think of.

Also, your only running SP1? You should REALLY get SP2 to protect your pc from hackers, or youll be looking at re-installing.

A tiny issue? The fact that he can't use almost 50% of his drive space?

Tiny? thats over half his harddrive, you seem to be posting jsut for the sake of posting.

Anyways, I'm fairly certain you need to upgrade to SP2, When i installed windows home that had SP1 on the disk i always had to get SP2 for the rest of my 300 to show up. And even against popular belief.....you CAN turn all of that annoying stuff on SP2 off.
