The driver for the printer is installed, but when i go print, i get a connect to printer window telling me "Window can not connect to printer, Print Spooler service is not running."

What could be the cause?

I Disable some service but i don't think any of them have to do with the printer. Not sure. Which windows service is for printers?

thanks

It is the Print Spooler

Start>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services....Then scroll down until you see Print Spooler and right-click it and select start

That should do it

Yeah... there is a pretty popular Windows XP optimization guide that tells you services that you can disable... but it gives out some false information on some.

It says you can disable print spooler because all it does is speed up printing jobs, but from what I've seen, every single time it causes you to not be able to print.

Also, it doesn't mention that Telephony is required for dial-up modems.

I remember that i disable print spooler now that you mentioned the discretion it gives on the co optimization guild.

EDIT:

Here is another problem. please let me know which service is responsible.

My laptop can't connect to the wireless network on my campus anymore. Its the first time but maybe the network is down, who knows. Will try the network in my home tonight.

The laptop does not go into standby mode when i close the led anymore. At least there is not screen asking me to log back on when i open the led. I check the option from the power management and it is set to standby when led is closed.

Thanks

Did you turn on the switch on the side of the laptop? There is a switch on the Toshiba Satellite that turns the Wireless Network Adapter on and off. I don't know if that's on others or not.

Is the laptop password protected when you boot up?

ya the switch is on and the laptop is not password protected.

The wireless just says it is acquiring network address and it will stay this that for the whole class.

the wireless works fine in my home, guess the one on campus was down.

thanks for viewing
