If there was an Ultimate AMD Gaming PC available what parts would be used to build it?
Here's what we've come up with so far:

#1) Case:
Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower $159.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129043
I just threw this case up here because it works with everything.
Keep in mind that the CASE is more of the builders choice. Just make sure it has great air flow!

#2) Motherboard:
a) ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - $199.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131392

or

b) GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - $174.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128377

#3) Processor:
a) AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz - $189.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674&Tpk=Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

or

b) AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - $199.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...I_X4_965_Black_Edition-_-19-103-727-_-Product

#4) GPU:
HIS H587F1GDG Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $384.99

#5) Memory:
a) OCZ AMD Black Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory - $124.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...+(Desktop+Memory)-_-OCZ+Technology-_-20227496

or

b) G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) - $84.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275

#6) Hard Drive:
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" - $229.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136322&Tpk=VelociRaptor 300GB

Would be better with two of these in a RAID 0 configuration but if loading isn't an issue for you one will do.

#7) PSU:
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750-Watt ATX Power Supply - Quad PCI-Express SATA-Ready $124.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...CODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE

#8) DVDRW Drive: $15 - $50
a) Your choice. If you don't burn dvd's you could actually just pick up a dvd rom/cd writer but I wouldn't! lol

or

b) LG 8X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 6X BD-ROM 2MB Cache Blu-ray Burner - $199.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136164

http://www.buy.com/prod/e-mu-1616m-pci-digital-audio-system/q/loc/101/203474272.html

The E-MU 1616M sound card is an awesome addition to the setup but it is definately NOT Necessary!

what is with all of these posts, just put a post in the desktop computers section asking for the best system, or just look around the site, so many of these threads have been made over time and recently.

the system you have there is just about right yea, butyou don't have memory and I would go with PC Power & cooling or Corsair for the PSU and maybe a different case

I apologize for spreading the posts out like that. I honestly didn't want to start too many. The section computer gaming seemed to scream out "start it here and they will come".lol

You could save some money on a cheaper case.

Good motherboard.
Not crossfire

Crossfire 16X/16X

PSU/The three I like best are PC Power Cooling/Corsair/Silverstone. Get one in a 750W range.

Dont really need a sound card, the onboard is pretty good.

DVD drive. Take your pick

I'm not having a go, more threads=more places to post different stuff :D

Just giving advice: You may get better information and that if you make one post asking everything you need to know in the section specifically about what you are asking.

Yea it is about a gaming PC, but it a desktop PC non-the-less, so desktop computing would be a better place to put it, the gaming section is more about the games themselves and not so much the systems they are on, unless it is a console issue or asking about hardware compatibility or system requirements for a game ;)

How do I move the thread?

You cant only Mod's can

Edit: It seems to me that the 790fx boards are WAY overpriced. The 785 boards are way cheaper and have just about all the same specs. Shoot those 790 boards only support 1666mhz ram and my 785 board supports 1800mhz. Anyone else with me on this?

The 740/780 and 785 are onboard video boards. Lowerend/not the same spec. Alot of the 740/780/785 still have some old liquid filled caps/ have a lowerend power setup, plus cheap mosfets. And a 3 and 4 or 5 phase power setup. Like I said most are.

Plus the 740/780/785 are all really 770 Northbridge chip with added onboard video.

The good 770/790 have all solid caps and a 10 phase power setup, plus will have low RDS(on) mosfets and full size ATX boards and most have better cooling.

AMDs have the memory controller on the processor, not the motherboard, the supported memory speed is just a marketing hype.

I think its a over priced board. The 890a chip is just a renamed 780a. Plus from what its starting to look like, Nvidia is going out of the chipset business. Bulding a AMD setup now, I would stick with a AM3 board and DDR3.

Nvidia as far as chipsets is getting smashed from both sides. Intel wont let them make a chipset for the i3/i5/i7. So far AMD has said no to them for the upcoming Bulldozer. So in over a year there will be nothing for them to make a chipset for. And AMD sure aint going to let SLI on a AMD chipset since AMD makes there own Video Cards. Nvidia for the first time have their self in a tight spot.
